Burning Jade Literary & Arts Journal

The global pandemic began and suddenly Natalie Bagniefski, Abby Wargo, and I were left with very few creative outlets. We decided to take this time to create Burning Jade, a quarterly literary and arts journal targeted toward Gen Z. We have also recently registered with the state of Maryland to become a small business! We are very excited to see Burning Jade Arts Organization, LLC, grow! We released our first issue, “#AmericaIsOverParty,” on Saturday, July 4th, 2020, and are committed to publishing new work every season!

Challenging My Creative Self

For the third issue of Burning Jade Magazine, we interrogated the ideas of love and loneliness. In an attempt to “show range” and “challenge myself” (that’s what all the good writers do, right?), I decided to write a poem. Admittedly, I’d never written a (good) poem before in my life! Perhaps this poem isn’t god-tier, but it shows vulnerability (something new for me) and really made me appreciate the work that goes into making good poetry. You can read my poem “your eyes are blue like the ocean” in the third issue of Burning Jade #cuffingszn!

A Love Letter to Latkes

In a brief column I explore my relationship with my Judaism through the humble, but tasty, latke. I also provide an incredibly pillowy but crunchy latke recipe that is perfect for any time of the year! Go read this piece I wrote for issue two, “Rituals,” of Burning Jade on our website!

The Case For Literally Buying Something off the Side of the Road

In this article I explore the lasting effects of food insecurity due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I take a deep dive into the many simultaneous failings that have led to record numbers of hunger and food scarcity reverberating throughout the United States. I also investigate various solutions to address some of the problems contributing to hunger in America. Go read my article in Burning Jade’s inaugural issue “#AmericaIsOverParty.”

Writing for Theatre and Film

While at NYU, I had the pleasure of meeting my primary artistic collaborator, Jenna Fink. In our final semester we wrote and produced a workshop production(/murder mystery party) for an immersive theatre experience entitled Qoheleth, a Hanukah murder story. We also began development for a web-series and are currently discussing future endeavors in theatre and film as writers and directors. Jenna and I also passionately discuss the future of immersive theatre and sight-specific theatre in a post-COVID-19 world.

In addition to Miss Jordan’s Spring 2020 Production, Jenna and I are currently in the early development stages of a feature film centered around Judaism and a Queer relationship.

Miss Jordan’s Spring 2020 Production

Miss Jordan just wants to put on the best production of the Three Sisters that Ubly, Michigan has ever seen, but when only four people audition, Miss Jordan has to redefine the meaning of “best” and learn lessons she never thought possible. Taking place in the runup to the Pandemic this ensemble comedy webseries will make you laugh till you pee, just like Tyler.

Jenna and I are currently in the pre-production phases of Miss Jordan’s Spring 2020 Proudction! We are so excited to show the world a piece we’ve been working tirelessly on for the past few months! We will be starting an Indiegogo as one of our means to secure funding. You can follow our production company’s Instagram for updates on this and other projects!
